RESOLUTION FOR THE MEETING OF THE FACULTIES
1. While deeply regretting the necessity of police action to restore order on the campus, we believe it essential for all members of the University community to avoid recriminations and devote their efforts to constructive solutions of the problems we confront.
2. We trust that the President will take immediate steps to implement his statement of April 29 in regard to the resolution of the gymnasium problem, and support his decision to create a tri-partite commission on University discipline.
3. We recommend the establishment of a representative commission to be elected by the faculties to propose necessary changes in the structure of the University, including the participation of junior faculty and students in decision-making. To this end we urge the immediate appointment of a seven man committee to draw up plans for the speedy formation of such an elected commission.
4 We call upon the Trustees to send to these faculties a statement of their views on the University's needs and endorsement of the necessity for University reform, and an expression of their willingness to make such statutory changes as are necessary for constructive action.
5. At the beginning of the academic year, 1968-69 we urge that the President appoint and serve upon a joint faculty- trustee committee to implement the-. work of the representative commission.
6. We ask President Kirk and Vice President Truman to continue to meet with the full faculties as at present constituted at regular intervals during the present emergency.
