John Hastings, Director, on the University's reopening, covering the 10-day period from April 28th to May 7th, 1968.

April 28 "If anyone inquires, the University plans to be open on Monday, April 29, 1968."
April 30 "In order to restore the campus and buildings to normal condition, classes on the Morningside Heights campus of the University will not be held this morning. It is hoped that a number of the afternoon classes can be held. Employees of the University are to report to work at their regular hours during the day."
April 30 "Columbia University announces that there will be no classes held this afternoon or evening, Tuesday, April 30. We anticipate that a full schedule of classes will be held on Wednesday, May 1."
April 30 "The University will be open tomorrow (Wednesday) for faculty, students and staff. Regular classes, however, will not be held but faculty and students will meet together for discussions."
May 1 "In order to restore normal class activities in the various schools of the University as quickly as possible, authorization has been given to the individual deans to determine at what time classes are to resume in their divisions."
May 6 "University spokesmen reported that instruction was resumed at Columbia today. Normal-to-above- normal attendance was reported by several schools, including Business, Engineering, and Law. In Columbia College and the School of general Studies many instructors met their students at regularly scheduled times although in some instances the meetings were of an informal nature. "
May 7 [9:30 AM]"Classes at the Schools of Law, Business and Engineering are operating normally with virtually full attendance. The other schools of the University are rapidly returning to normal operations."
