D 2.4 Barnard College Campus, 1889-2003
First building (1889 - 1897) -- a rented brownstone at 343 Madison Avenue (between 44th and 45th), five blocks south of Columbia's 49th Street campus.
Moved to Morningside in 1898,  on 1-acre site between 120th and 119th Streets, on the west side of Broadway.  Cost of land: $160,000.
In 1903  Barnard purchased the 3 acres directly south of the original site, between 119th and 116th.  Cost of land: $1,000,000.
Still later, acquired four apartment buildings on the south side of 116th Street and, in 1992, a building on the west side of Claremont (#49), for student dormitories.
